WesternU selects Dr. Elizabeth Andrews as Dean of the College of Dentistry
POMONA, Calif., August 15, 2022 /PRNewswire/ — Western University of Health Sciences has selected Elizabeth AndrewsDDS, MS, as Dean of the College of Dentistry (CDM), effective August 15, 2022.
Dr. Andrews joined the CDM faculty in 2008 as an Assistant Professor, shortly after the founding of the College. CDM’s inaugural class began in the fall of 2009. She was promoted in 2011 to Associate Dean for Academic Affairs and became Associate Professor with tenure in 2018.

Andrews received his bachelor’s degree in biology in 1992 from State of California Northridge and his Doctor of Dental Surgery (DDS) degree from University of the Pacific School of Dentistry in 1995. She practiced general dentistry for 10 years at Merced, California. then completed his specialized training and master’s degree in oral and maxillofacial pathology at University of North Carolina School of Dentistry.

During her time in private practice, Andrews was active in organized dentistry. She was president of the Yosemite Dental Society and a trustee of the California Dental Association, where she also served as a member of the strategic planning committee. His research interests include HPV-associated oropharyngeal squamous cell carcinoma and salivary markers of oral cancer.
At WesternU, she has mentored many research students and her advice has helped them secure residencies and grants. She sits on several college and university committees, including chair of the university curriculum committee and co-chair of the admissions committee. She is a member of the Tri-County Dental Society, American Dental Education Association, American Dental Association, and California Dental Association. She is a member of the Southern California Academy of Oral Pathology and the American Academy of Oral & Maxillofacial Pathology.

She succeeds Dr. Steven W. Friedrichsen, who retired as Dean of CDM after more than 11 years of service at WesternU. He was named Acting Dean of the CDM on February 1, 2011and dean on July 1, 2011.
