Vicki Malamatinas: Victoria’s first Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery Nurse Practitioner

Vicki Malamatinas is Victoria’s first plastic and reconstructive surgery nurse practitioner and she says it’s a dream come true.

Vicki has worked in this role for two years at Northern Hospital in Epping and has so far seen over 200 patients who have required plastic surgery.

“Being one of the first plastic nurse practitioners in the state is exciting and a wonderful opportunity to provide specialist care,” Vicki said in an interview with Northern Health.

As part of her role, Vicki works alongside the plastic and hand surgery unit of the hospital and does the morning rounds in Ward 19 with the team. Once this is complete, she goes to the clinic to see post-discharge and newly referred patients.

Vicki works at Northern Hospital in Epping.

“I was fortunate to be trained to provide expert care to patients who require plastic surgery, as well as learn to perform certain procedures that can be done independently and help out in theater or in our operating room,” Vicki said.

Vicki’s colleagues at Northern Hospital praised her for the hard work she does every day.

Acting director of operations for surgical inpatient services, Amanda Paleologos, said she was “an asset” to the team “and supports the nursing and medical staff in the treatment and care of complex patients”.

Divisional Director of Surgery Dennis Gyomber also said Vicki “will not only play her part in improving plastic surgery care, but I believe she will become a role model for others to become nurse practitioners.” .
