Controversial week
Joe Rogan is the lightning rod for controversy (again), but he also enjoys growing support. Last week, Neil Young began condemning Joe, demanding that his songs be removed from Spotify because the streaming platform hosts Joe’s podcast. Neil agreed with a coalition of hundreds of doctors and public health experts who argue the podcaster is spreading misinformation about COVID-19 vaccines — and the rocker doesn’t want his music on the same platform. On January 30, Joe broke his silence on the controversy and apologized, vowing “to try to balance these more controversial views with other people’s views so that maybe we can find a best point of view”. After posting his apology, hordes of celebrities publicly applauded the former ‘Fear Factor’ host. Dwayne Johnson said Joe’s mea culpa was “perfectly articulated”. Katy Perry “liked” a tweet supporting the apology. Jewel told him he was doing “a great job”, adding “keep it up”. Some celebrities were still unwilling to forgive Joe…

Pregnant!
Rihanna and A$AP Rocky are about to be mom and dad. On Jan. 30, the “Umbrella” singer showed off her baby bump in New York City. Rihanna, a source told People magazine, is thrilled to be a mother. “Having a baby is something she’s never focused on, but being with Rocky has opened her up to the idea. She couldn’t be happier and is so excited to be a mom,” said the source. “She loves all the changes to her body during pregnancy and has always celebrated expectant mothers in her runway shows for Fenty.” Meanwhile, Rocky adores RiRi. “Everything Rihanna does, she does in her own way, on her schedule, and having a baby is no different,” the source said. “They’re just like any expectant couple. Yes, they happen to be famous, but they’re just the cutest, craziest young couple expecting kids.”

Suspension
ABC News announced Feb. 1 that it was suspending Whoopi Goldberg for two weeks for falsely stating on “The View” that the Holocaust was “not about race.” Whoopi commented on the January 31 episode of the daytime show. She then attempted to explain herself on Stephen Colbert’s late-night show, but only fanned the flames of controversy. Then, as she returned to “The View” on Feb. 1, she apologized. “I said something that I feel responsible not to leave unexamined because my words upset so many people, which was never my intention,” she said. “I understand why now, and for that I’m deeply, deeply grateful because the information I got was really helpful, and it helped me understand different things.” Throughout the week, Whoopi’s name has been trending, and many celebrities have publicly condemned her words.

darling daddy
Nick Cannon will be a father for the eighth time. On February 1, the talk show host confirmed speculation that he and model Bre Tiesi were expecting a baby. But the ‘Masked Singer’ host claimed he didn’t break his vow of celibacy – he claimed he decided not to have sex for a while after finding out Bre was pregnant. “My therapist was one of [people] who said I should probably be single and the reason is because I shared this news about Bre’s pregnancy,” he said on his show. This is the reason why I started my journey of celibacy back then. So for anyone thinking, ‘Oh, he wasn’t single,’ I was!” After hearing he had gotten a fifth wife pregnant, Nick said he ‘didn’t know what to do’ and that he was trying to ‘get a grip’ on life. “I felt like I was out of control and honestly being single helped me get one with myself and be able deal with it,” he added. CNN fallout
Katie Couric was surprised that longtime CNN Worldwide president Jeff Zucker announced his retirement, but she wasn’t surprised to learn that an affair with the network’s chief marketing officer, Allison Gollust, was the reason for the sudden resignation. “I worked with Jeff Zucker for many years at NBC and later on my talk show. He was a talented and energetic producer. His resignation took me by surprise,” Katie told subscribers to her newsletter. February 3. “I also knew Allison Gollus from my days on the ‘Today Show.’ I wondered about the nature of their relationship, but I know, as I wrote in my memoir “Going There”, that it made me feel uncomfortable. It seems that their colleagues and the media in general turned a blind eye to inappropriate behavior.” Jeff and Allison both admit their romance was “consensual.” In “Going There,” the former NBC News reporter shared observations about Jeff and Allison, saying he “made a huge effort to bring [Allison] aboard “Today,” according to People. “They were joined at the hip,” wrote Katie, who hosted the “Today” show from 1991 to 2006. “There was no role for Allison. Jeff asked me to meet her anyway .”
