Metropolitan Veterinary Hospital, with 24-hour emergency, opens in Highland Heights
HIGHLAND HEIGHTS, Ohio – Metropolitan Veterinary Hospital opened at 734 Alpha Drive, providing 24/7 emergency room operations in Highland Heights. As work continues on the 30,000 square foot building, specialized services will be added in the coming months.
The emergency department is staffed with a critic, emergency physicians and specialist nurses. Over the next several months, MVH will expand its specialty services to include internal medicine, surgery, neurology, oncology, avian and exotic care, cardiology and ophthalmology.
MVH opened on February 22 in Highland Heights after delays caused by the pandemic. The announcement that MVH would open its second location in Highland Heights came in November 2020, and initially the building renovation was expected to lead to a fall 2021 opening. MVH’s original location, which opened its doors in 1968, remains at 1053 S. Cleveland-Massillon Road in Copley.
“This new hospital expands the scope of our committed mission to implement patient and family-centered veterinary care in our communities,” MVH CEO Hal Bond said in a statement. “Our new hospital will provide the most advanced medical and surgical services with the best veterinary care you know and trust.”
The Highland Heights site will employ 30 specialist and emergency physicians, a number that is expected to increase soon. MVH sees more than 28,000 cases a year at its Copley site.
When asked to comment on the reason for opening a second location in Highland Heights, Jeni Smith, Marketing and Communications Manager, said in an email response: “The Highland Heights community was so welcoming to us and was the perfect location for the opportunity of an emergency and specialist hospital.
“The centralized location, close to the freeway (I-271), is ideal for guests of all walks of life. With an increasing percentage of our customers coming (to Copley) from the north, the move to Highland Heights will better serve the community and surrounding communities.
