Manipur CM launches multi-specialty services for cancer treatment

Imphal: Chief Minister of Manipur N Biren Singh on Friday inaugurated a 100-bed multi-specialty ward to provide world-class cancer treatment at the American Oncology Institute (AOI) at Babina Specialty Hospital, Shajiwa in Imphal East.

The Chief Minister also laid the foundation stone for the construction of Babina Multi-Specialty Hospital.

Along with the comprehensive cancer care facility, the hospital has now extended its services to specialty departments like Neurology, Urology, Intensive Care, General Surgery, Internal Medicine among others to improve services specialist care in the state.

Commending the Babina Group and the American Institute of Oncology for their contribution to the health sector, Chief Minister Biren Singh said, “This state-of-the-art cancer hospital will now be able to provide treatment for world-class cancer to the people of the state. as well as the northeast region and neighboring countries. With this hospital in place, the people of the state can get cancer treatment right here, saving a lot of money and time in the majority of cases.

The chief minister said the state government is also constructing a state-of-the-art cancer hospital at the Jawaharlal Nehru Institute of Medical Sciences (JNIMS). We will soon deliver it to the people of Manipur, he tweeted.

He also praised the officials of Babina Specialty Hospital for their support and cooperation during the 2nd wave of the COVID-19 pandemic by admitting COVID-19 positive patients for treatment even before the inauguration of the hospital. himself.

He added that the hospital’s humanitarian department has eased the hardships faced by people due to unavailability of beds during the pandemic.

He also expressed satisfaction that the hospital had provided treatment facilities to over 200 patients under the PMJAY and over 500 patients under the CMHT programme.

Singh further mentioned that the opening of the Institute of Oncology in the state would help solve the financial problems faced by cancer patients and their families for treatment outside the state.
