“General Hospital” will not recast Jason Morgan’s role by Steve Burton

When Steve Burton was fired from General hospital, speculation abounded about his potential replacement. Credible sources have suggested that Trevor St. John is in the running to replace Burton as Jason Morgan. Burton played Jason for over 30 years, on and off, until his breach of ABC’s vaccination mandate got him fired for good. But after much speculation, sources have confirmed that the role of Burton will not be cast – and that Jason Morgan is, for all intents and purposes, dead.

Steve Burton was fired from “general hospital”

In a video posted to his Instagram Stories on November 23, Steve Burton confirmed that he was fired from General hospital.

“Hey guys, I know there has been a lot of rumors and speculation about me and General hospital, “he said.” And I wanted you to hear it personally. Unfortunately, [the production] let me go because of the vaccination warrant. I asked for my medical and religious exemptions. And, both were turned down.

Burton, however, did not clarify when he requested the medical and religious exemptions in question. Fans will also recall that Burton was diagnosed with COVID-19 in August 2021, forcing him to step away from production for a while.

Trevor St. John was supposed to be recast in the role

Soaps.com spoke directly to superiors about General hospital on what will happen to Jason Morgan in the next few episodes. And while they were careful not to reveal too much about what would happen on Cassadine Island, it was eventually revealed that Jason had been killed, for all intents and purposes.

It began to speculate that Trevor St. John, a soap legend best known for his role in A life to live, would enter the role. Burton and St. John have more than a fleeting resemblance. It would be easy to just have St. John in the role and act like nothing has happened – or say he’s had plastic surgery.

But even if things don’t go so far as to say there has been “plastic surgery,” it wouldn’t be the first time someone completely different has taken on a role without an explanation. After all, watch Charles Shaughnessy step straight into the role of Victor Cassadine.

But ‘GH’ executives have confirmed Jason Morgan won’t be recast

Ultimately, it seems speculation – for now – is a dead problem.

According to Variety, General hospital currently has no plans to recast Jason Morgan, either with Trevor St. John or anyone else. However, it should be noted that the outlet did not receive a response from anyone at ABC or the production company. Further, “when asked by Variety if this line indicated Jason could potentially return – either played by a vaccinated Burton or another actor – a spokesperson for” General Hospital “did not respond,” reported The media.

To be sure, soap operas have brought a wide variety of characters back from the dead in much worse circumstances. Sometimes their original actors come back to play them. Other times the role is completely overhauled – like the time Thorsten Kaye replaced Ronn Moss on Love glory and beauty. We will only have to tune in to the next episodes of General hospital to see what they ultimately do with Jason Morgan’s script.
