Doctors at Fujairah Hospital’s Obstetrics and Gynecology Center – part of the Emirates Health Services (EHS) network – performed critical precision surgery on a patient after clinical tests detected a large fibroid uterus of 4.5 kg. The hospital managed to remove the fibroid avoiding a full hysterectomy, and the patient was closely monitored after the operation to ensure that she was in stable condition.

Fujairah Hospital Director Ahmed Al Khadim said, “Our medical and nursing staff here at Fujairah Hospital are highly experienced in dealing with various cases, which is further enhanced by the medical equipment of tip that we have at the hospital. This enhances the efficiency and quality of medical procedures and improves the health and treatment services provided by the hospital.

“Uterine fibroid excision is one of many delicate surgeries that have been successfully performed by medical staff at Fujairah Hospital, made possible by the cumulative experiences of our surgeons, who span all medical specialties,” Al Khadim added, noting that the hospital is dedicated to improving surgical procedures and providing leadership and excellence in the field.

Meanwhile, Dr. Omar Alwan, Consultant in Obstetrics and Gynecology and Gynecological Oncology at Fujairah Hospital, explained, “Fujairah Hospital has expanded the scope of surgeries performed by laparoscopy to include procedures such as hysterectomy and removal of cysts. This was made possible thanks to the modern equipment provided to the hospital by Emirates Health Services, as well as the efficiency and expertise of the medical and nursing staff.

“We established a cervical endoscopy clinic for early detection of cervical cancer, which helped diagnose a 26-year-old patient with cervical cancer who was still in her beginnings. We performed an excision on the tumour, successfully preserving the uterus,” Dr Alwan added.

“This type of procedure can only be performed in case of early detection, which proves the importance of periodic screening for the early detection of cervical cancer.” For her part, Dr. Amal Al Muaini, Head of Obstetrics and Gynecology Center and Deputy Director of Medical Affairs at Fujairah Hospital, noted that: “Over the past year, Fujairah Hospital managed to perform 620 operations covering all surgical specialties.
