To help continue the fight against the disease, an additional oncologist/hematologist, Dr. Boban Mathew, has joined the Freeman Physician Group of Pittsburgh.

“It is with great pleasure that I welcome Dr. Mathew to our Freeman Cancer Care team in Pittsburgh to continue providing exceptional care to area residents,” she added.

Dr. Mathew completed a residency in internal medicine at Ohio Valley Medical Center and completed a fellowship in hematology/oncology at the University of Kansas Medical Center.

He practiced medicine in southeastern Kansas for two decades and will continue to serve Pittsburg area residents as a member of Team Freeman.

Dr. Mathew has participated in clinical trials through the Masonic Cancer Alliance (MCA), a regional cancer network led by the University of Kansas Cancer Center. He said he was drawn to his specialty because of his personal experience with cancer.

“Growing up, I saw several members of my family fight cancers and go through treatments,” he said. “That sparked my interest in cancer care, and I decided to go to medical school in hopes of majoring in oncology. I have dedicated my life’s work to helping families through the difficult journey and decisions associated with this diagnosis.
